Welbeck Healthcare Centre
An unusual project came our way recently in the shape of the new Welbeck Health Centre in Oxford.
Set to open later this year, Welbeck Oxford is a new state-of-the-art private healthcare centre, set to open in Oxford later this year. The building is currently undergoing substantial works to suit its new purpose, including replacing the roof with one designed by Dean Turley and the team at Scotts Timber Engineering.
Changes in the internal structure of the roof are required to ensure easy access for the supply (and maintenance of) all the additional services required by the wide range of medical treatments the centre will provide.
The existing roof structure is unsuitable for these needs and is being replaced in sections to provide an internal walkway central to the roof, allowing easy and safe access for regular maintenance inspections and management. The ceiling height in the central section is also being raised to allow for the services beneath. Click here or scan this QR code on the right to explore the 3D version.
“These very specific needs, combined with the scale of the roof (15+ metre span) meant an interesting project for our design teams,” commented Dean Turley, General Manager at the Scotts Timber Engineering Redditch factory. “We worked closely with the site teams to develop this solution as an alternative to an expensive steel-based solution, using tried and trusted timber design techniques – houses and apartments are our bread and butter, but it’s always good to get your teeth into a real design challenge!”
Offering a wide range of medical services, including heart health, lung health, digestive health, ENT, endoscopy, and neurology, Welbeck Oxford will be equipped with the latest technology and will focus on providing patient-centred care, with an emphasis on same-day recovery.
