Miller Homes Car Barns
Our timber engineering expertise is so extensive, we are often called upon by housebuilders to help bring their projects to life in multiple ways.
Earlier this year, we started supplying trusses for a number of Miller Homes developments: Earls Grange, Telford; Elmhurst Chase, Carterton; Cleve Wood, Thornbury; Roman Croft, Telford and Mill Chase Road, Bordon.
Several weeks later, we were also called upon by the company to design and supply three bespoke luxury car barns for their Elmhurst Chase site in Carterton, Oxfordshire.
Working closely with Miller Homes, our in-house team of architects designed the car barns, which spanned 17m x 5.5m. It took us four weeks from approval to manufacture the three car barns at our site.
“It was important that the overall look and feel of the car barns complemented the aesthetics and character of the other buildings on-site, which could only be achieved by providing a highly tailored solution,” explains Billy Richardson, our head of sales.
“We liaised closely with Miller Homes’ senior surveyor throughout to turn their car barns vision into reality, and adjusted our designs accordingly to ensure they fully met their requirements from a design, functionality and cost perspective.”
Once manufactured, the car barns were delivered to site with installation guidance to help make it quicker and easier for Miller Homes’ installation team. So far, one of the car barns has been erected, with the other two due to be constructed early next year.
“We chose Scotts Timber Engineering to help us with this particular project because of their ability to provide a full design and manufacturing service,” explains Andrew Dyke, senior surveyor at Miller Homes.
“We are extremely pleased with the end result and are looking forward to seeing the final two car barns in-situ early next year. In the meantime, we are so pleased with the quality of Scotts Timber Engineering’s products and services, we have also asked them to supply us with other timber items, including roof trusts and joists.”
Timber car barns are a low-carbon solution with a classic and timeless aesthetic. They are typically quicker to install than masonry structures because they can be manufactured off-site and delivered just-in-time ready for assembly. Meanwhile, they are also seen as an ideal solution for trickier locations because they do not require any concrete foundations or expensive steel sections.
