Introducing Loden Townsend

Truss and Joist designer Loden Townsend has been an integral part of Scotts Timber Engineering’s Redditch branch since he began in production in 2017 at just 18 years old. With a longstanding passion for design, Loden initially contemplated pursuing graphic design. However, in 2019, he seized the opportunity to join the Scotts design team.

Now, five years later, Loden is a fully trained designer with a wealth of experience. He has successfully worked on projects ranging from small local extensions to large-scale developments for national and regional housebuilders, including Persimmon Homes, Owl Homes, and Cotswold Oak.

Loden’s shop floor background has proven invaluable in his design work. “My comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes, as well as the technicalities of our products, allows me to add significant value to the Scotts design team.”

Designers at Scotts do much more than just the designing and Loden finds these other aspects of his role just as rewarding. “We are able to pick up an enquiry and run with it, dealing directly on commercial and design with buyers, technical teams and site managers as well as elements of project management up to the point where the trusses and joists are moved into production,” he explains. “There’s a real buzz every time we win a project, driven by the strong relationships we build with our customers, alongside our commitment to quality, competitive pricing, and exceptional service no matter how large or small the housebuilder.”

Outside of work, Loden (pictured here with Rodney the sausage dog) and his partner are busy renovating a Victorian property, which they envision as the first of many renovation projects and which takes up most of their free time.
