Hornsey Police Station Conversion

Scotts Timber Engineering have delivered the first tranche of metal web joists to the Koukan Developments project to convert and extend the old Hornsey Police Station, North London, providing 29 homes in two blocks.

Built in 1884, the police station in Tottenham Lane originally formed part of a complex of civic buildings including a fire station and library. It was closed in March 2021 under City Hall’s plans to save £8million per year to reinvest in frontline policing.

The former police station is being refurbished and extended to provide six terraced houses and four flats. A new four-storey block to the north, in Tottenham Lane, will provide four houses and seven flats, while a new three-storey block at the corner of Harold Road and Glebe Road to the west will provide eight flats available at London Affordable Rent levels.

The developers, their engineers and architects have integrated the principles of sustainable design and construction into the design, putting an emphasis on passive design measures and efficient servicing solutions in-line with the London Borough of Haringey Development Management Development Plan Document. So the flats will all be serviced by communal air source heat pumps with individual heat pumps providing space heating for the houses. PV panels will be installed on the flat roof, helping the site to generate some of its own energy.
