Hundegger Delivery!
We all love a delivery, but the production team at Scotts Timber Engineering are getting the biggest delivery they’ve ever seen today as their new HUNDEGGER TURBO-Drive 450 high performance cutting machine arrives at its Northamptonshire factory.
The saw is expected to be operational from next Monday, 17th February. With 6 days to get the machine ready for operation, the office and factory team have a busy week on their hands:
- Unloading and positioning the saw itself
- Positioning and securing the new machine’s electrical cabinet
- Levelling the saw
- Connecting it to air, power and IT network
- Install disposable belts and outfeed tables
- Complete the wiring
- Clean up and commission the machine
- Test run and prepare for operator training
And of course, there has been lots of preparation. Renovation of the saw room to improve surroundings including painting of the walls and floor making the environment more aesthetically appealing. Creating space for the increased yield in cut timber. Software changes from MiTek and alterations to production paperwork to accommodate the Hundegger’s more efficient timber optimisation methodology reducing paper usage and admin time. Electrical, compressor and additional network cabling installations have all been successfully completed.
Training in the new software that runs the saw hasn’t been limited to the sawyers who will operate the new equipment. Production office, process management and design team leadership have all learnt how the new software works, as well as how it interfaces with their own work areas.
Scotts Timber Engineering is bucking trends in the sector and experiencing volume growth as a result of its approach, so this machinery upgrade is well timed and will improve productivity. The Hundegger can cut three times as much timber in a day as some of the older equipment it replaces and will also help our teams optimise cutting lists and reduce offcut wastage dramatically.
